Position Overview
As a Sales Engineer, you will be responsible for identifying, developing, and securing new opportunities for building automation and energy management systems. This role blends technical expertise with customer engagement, serving as a trusted advisor to project and service clients. You will design solutions, build estimates, solve problems, and collaborate with internal teams to deliver results that enhance efficiency, comfort, and operational performance.

Manage Customer Relationships
- Build and maintain relationships with design engineers, architects, building owners, facility managers, and property managers.
- Identify customer needs and translate them into building automation and energy management opportunities.
- Conduct site surveys, review system conditions, and assess equipment to develop cost-effective solutions.
- Review local project boards and identify opportunities aligned with company objectives.
Estimate & Develop Proposals
- Review construction drawings, specifications, and site conditions to define project scope and pricing.
- Estimate labor, materials, and resources for retrofit and new construction automation projects.
- Prepare proposals that are clear, competitive, and tailored to client objectives.
- Review service reports and create timely quotes to meet ongoing customer needs.
Prospect & Develop New Business
- Expand market presence by networking with engineering firms, architectural firms, landlords, property managers, mechanical contractors, and general contractors.
- Maintain an active backlog of quotes, leads, and client opportunities to meet sales targets.
- Represent Bedard Controls at industry events, trade shows, and client meetings.
Collaborate for Project Success
- Work with engineering, operations, and installation teams to ensure smooth project handoff and execution
- Clearly communicate project goals, risks, and expectations across internal teams.
Manage Customer Relationships
- Serve as a long-term partner by providing honest advice, proactive communication, and technical guidance.
- Address concerns quickly and professionally to ensure satisfaction and repeat business.
What You Bring
- 5+ years of experience in Building Automation, HVAC Controls, or related mechanical systems in sales, estimating, or project management.
- Proven ability to manage client relationships and develop business through trust and technical knowledge.
- Strong understanding of HVAC/mechanical systems and how automation impacts performance, energy, and operational costs.
- Skilled at interpreting construction drawings, mechanical layouts, and system specifications.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Comfortable accessing mechanical spaces and navigating job sites.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience with Johnson Controls Metasys, Tridium Niagara, or other building automation platforms (preferred, not required)
- Familiarity with project estimating software and design-build workflows
- Background in fast-paced mechanical service or building controls environment.
